6,6-Dimethyl-2,4-piperidine dione is a chemical compound that has been shown to be an aminolysis product of the reaction of N-methylmaleimide with 2,4-dichloroacetophenone. It is a tautomer of 6-(dimethylamino)hexanoic acid and hydrolyzes to form hexanoic acid and dimethylamine. 6,6-Dimethyl-2,4-piperidine dione may be synthesized from 2,4-dichloroacetophenone by heating in the presence of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. This compound is also known as DMDPD.
