N,N-Dimethyl-1-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methanamine (DMPP) is a pyrrole compound. Pyrrole is structurally similar to benzene and has four pi electrons in the ring. The synthesis of DMPP can be achieved through Wittig reaction of an aldehyde with a phosphonium salt in the presence of lanthanide metal. DMPP is an aromatic heterocycle that contains two nitrogen atoms. It has two different stereoisomeric forms: α and β. DMPP is an important ligand for transition metals, such as copper(II), nickel(II), and palladium(II). It can be used as a quaternary ammonium salt or amine when it reacts with nitrous acid, which leads to its protonation.
