3H-[1,2]Dithiolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3-thione is a fungitoxic agent that is synthesized by the condensation of 2-aminothiophenol and 3-mercaptopropyl thioacetate. It has been shown to be active against fungi and gram-negative bacteria. The fungicidal activity of 3H-[1,2]Dithiolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3-thione is reversible and it does not affect the growth of bacteria. This compound is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, but not against Gram-negative bacteria. 3H-[1,2]Dithiolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3-thione also exhibits a potent antifungal activity against Candida albicans and other fungi strains.
