1,2-Dihydroacenaphthylene-5-carbaldehyde is a porphyrin that is water soluble and can be used to inhibit singlet oxygen. It has been shown to have an inhibitory concentration of 10 μM in cells. This compound has also been shown to have anticancer activity against breast cancer cells. The quantum yield of this compound is 0.02, which allows it to be used as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT). 1,2-Dihydroacenaphthylene-5-carbaldehyde has also been shown to kill cancer cells by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and DNA damage.
