2,5-Diamino-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine hydrochloride (2,5-DAP) is a synthetic chemical that can be chlorinated by reacting with formamide to produce 2,5-dichloropyrimidine. The reaction yield for this synthesis is high and the product can be purified by filtration. 2,5-DAP is a precursor in the production of dihydroxypyrimidines and amides. It can be converted to 6-aminohexanoic acid methyl ester with formic acid and methanol as reactants. 2,5-DAP has been used in the synthesis of heterocycloalkyl residues that are found in drugs such as benzylpenicillin.
