- 2,6-Dimethylquinoline-4-Carboxylate
2,6-Dimethylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid is an amine that is used as a fluorescence probe in analytical methods. It is typically used to measure the level of urine amines and has been shown to be sensitive enough to detect concentrations in the range of 1.5 - 5 μg/mL. This compound can also be used as a calibration standard for reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analysis of amino acids and other compounds in human urine. 2,6-Dimethylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid reacts with primary amino groups on proteins, which produce a fluorescent product when irradiated with light at 330 nm. This reaction takes place within seconds and does not require any specialized equipment or techniques.
