2-(Dimethylamino)cyclohexanol is a cocaine analog that has methylamino group. It binds to opioid receptors, and this binding is selective for the δ-opioid receptor. This compound also has a high affinity for ligands with an α-methyl group. 2-(Dimethylamino)cyclohexanol can be methylated to form 2-methylaminocyclohexanol, which has similar properties as the parent compound. The n-oxide of 2-(dimethylamino)cyclohexanol is more potent than the parent compound in binding to opioid receptors and naloxone-reversible effects. Oxidation by periodate produces a cyclohexanone derivative that has affinity for both opioid and dopamine receptors.
