Description

Dimethyl octanebis(imidoate) dihydrochloride is a cavity-forming agent that is used to form a polymer. It has been shown to be an analog of the natural polymer lysine, which is found in collagen. Dimethyl octanebis(imidoate) dihydrochloride can be cross-linked with proteins and antibodies to form a three-dimensional matrix for use in tissue engineering applications or as a scaffold for bone regeneration. The chemical also has antiviral and antifungal properties, which are due to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell wall formation by binding to the ribosome. Dimethyl octanebis(imidoate) dihydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the growth of various pathogens, including HIV-1, influenza A virus, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and Candida albicans.
