2-(1,3-Dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl)ethanesulfonamide is an experimental drug that has been shown to have anticonvulsant properties in animal models of seizure. It is a lipophobic molecule that binds to the GABA receptor and increases the frequency of chloride ion channel opening. 2-(1,3-Dioxo-1,3-dihydro-2H-isoindol-2-yl)ethanesulfonamide also prevents the binding of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and taurine to their receptors. The maximal effect is achieved with intraperitoneal administration and the minimal effect is achieved with intracerebroventricular administration.
