Description:

(Diethylamino)(oxo)acetic acid is a chemical that is used in the synthesis of various organic compounds. It is also used as a reagent in the chemical industry and for research in biomolecular chemistry. This compound is an ester of diethyl oxalate with aminoethanol. It can be prepared by reacting potassium persulfate with ethyl acetate, which gives a mixture of ethyl 2-hydroxy-2-oxoacetate and diethylaminoethoxyacetic acid in water. The reaction proceeds via an organic catalytic cycle. The product can be purified by removing the water, followed by vacuum distillation to remove the ethanol and then recrystallization from hot acetic acid to remove any residual acetic acid. The yield of this chemical is about 50%.
