Description:
5,7-Dihydroxy-4-phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one (5,7-DhPC) is a small molecule that binds to target tissue and induces inflammation. This compound has been shown to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and polycystic ovarian syndrome. 5,7-DhPC can also be used as a diagnostic agent for the detection of suprachoroidal lesions. The molecule is too large to pass through the blood brain barrier, so it cannot be used as an imaging agent for neurological disorders. 5,7-DhPC induces inflammation by binding to toll like receptor 4 (TLR4), which leads to activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB). The NFκB pathway plays an important role in the development of various autoimmune diseases and other inflammatory conditions.
