4,5-Dimethylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid is a linear carboxylic acid that is composed of a thiophene ring. It can be synthesized by the reaction of 4,5-dimethylthiophene with methanol and sodium methoxide in the presence of sulfuric acid. The experimental data for this compound was obtained using gas chromatography and gas liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. 4,5-Dimethylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid has been found to have no carbonyl compounds in the gas phase, but it does possess some carbonyl compounds in the liquid phase.
