3,5-Dimethylbenzene-1,2-diamine is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H12N2. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. 3,5-Dimethylbenzene-1,2-diamine has been used in the synthesis of other chemical compounds and is currently being studied for its use in process optimization. 3,5-Dimethylbenzene-1,2-diamine has shown to be a good catalyst for catalytic hydrogenation reactions. It is commonly used as a solvent in synthesizing nucleophilic substituents. This compound also reacts rapidly with methanol and with hydrogen gas to produce formaldehyde and formic acid respectively. 3,5-Dimethylbenzene-1,2-diamine can be recrystallized from hot benzene or chloroform.
