2,3-Dihydro-4H-thiochromen-4-one is a phenolic compound that has been shown to have inhibitory properties. It has been postulated to have in vivo antifungal activity. This compound has been shown to be active against Cryptococcus neoformans, which is a fungus that causes cryptococcosis. 2,3-Dihydro-4H-thiochromen-4-one inhibits the growth of fungi by inducing cell lysis and also by binding to sulfoxides, which are important components of the fungal cell membrane. 2,3-Dihydro-4H-thiochromen-4-one has also been shown to act as an acylation agent with benzofuran derivatives.
