4,6-Dimethyl-nicotinamide is a heterocyclic chemical compound that has two structural isomers. The most common form of 4,6-dimethyl-nicotinamide is the N-(2′-methylpropyl)-3′,4′,5′-trimethoxybenzamidine (I) and its isomer N-(2′-methylpropyl)-3′,4′,5′-triethoxybenzamidine (II). These compounds are used in the synthesis of pyrazoles and triazoles. Isomer I can be converted to dexmedetomidine and the other isomer II can be converted to imidazole derivatives such as 5-(2-chloroethyl)-1H-[1,2,4]triazole.
