Description:

3,4-Dibromotetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide is a difluoro derivative of tetrahydrothiophene. It has been shown to be an effective antiviral agent against the H5N1 strain of avian influenza (covid-19 pandemic). The synthesis of 3,4-dibromotetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide is achieved by reacting bromine with tetrahydrothiophene in the presence of carbon tetrachloride and methylbenzene as a solvent. 3,4-Dibromotetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide has also been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates and other gram positive bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
