2,3-Dihydro-1,4-benzodioxine-2-carbohydrazide (DHB) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antihepatotoxic activity and antifungal activity. DHB inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit in a fluconazole-like manner. It also inhibits fungal growth by binding to ergosterol in the cell membrane. The inhibitory effects on bacterial and fungal growth are most likely due to inhibition of protein synthesis and DNA synthesis, respectively. This compound has been synthesised as part of an investigation into its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
