3,6-Dimethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzofuran is a monoterpene that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a wide range of microorganisms. It is a reactive compound and reacts with the thiol groups of proteins and other thiols in the cell. This reaction inhibits transcriptional regulation and protein synthesis by binding to the target enzymes. 3,6-Dimethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzofuran has been shown to inhibit photosynthetic activity in plants as well as the growth of fungi in vitro.
