Description:

5,5-Dimethyltetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione is a hydrohalide that can be synthesized by reacting the corresponding esters with bromoacetic acid in acetone. The reaction product is anhydrous and has a bicyclic structure. It is used as a reagent for alkylating compounds. 5,5-Dimethyltetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione reacts with alkyl halides to form esters. It will react with 2 equivalents of ethyl iodide to produce ethyl 5,5-dimethyltetrahydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione-3(2H)-carboxylate.
