1,3-Dithiane-2-carboxylic acid is an alkylating agent that reacts with electron-deficient substrates. This compound can also be used for the preparation of phthalimides and thioacetals. 1,3-Dithiane-2-carboxylic acid is prepared by ring opening of 1,3 dithianes.
