3-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)propyl]amine is a chlorinated reserpine derivative that is used as an antihypertensive agent. It has been shown to lower blood pressure by depleting the body of catecholamines, such as 5-hydroxytryptamine, and by blocking the uptake of norepinephrine. 3-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)propyl]amine has also been shown to have potentiating effects on barbiturates, which can be useful for anesthesia. This drug has not yet been approved for use in humans.
