Description:

4,5-Dimethyl-1H-imidazole is a redox potential that is used as a synthetic intermediate in organic chemistry. It has been shown to be a substrate for the enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and can be used as an analytical method for the determination of fatty acids. 4,5-Dimethyl-1H-imidazole is also used to synthesize other compounds such as aminoethanol and methyl ethyl ketone. This compound dissolves in methanol, n-dimethyl formamide, or acid solutions and reacts with nitrogen atoms to form the corresponding nitroso compound. Metabolic disorders are caused by this reaction because amines are known to cause damage to various tissues in the body.
