Product Information
- Diethyl diphenylmethylphosphonate
- Diethyl(diphenylmethyl) phosphate
- Diethyl 1,1-diphenylmethylphosphonate
Diethyl benzhydrylphosphonate is a phenoxazine derivative. It is prepared by the reaction of diethyl phosphite with benzhydryl chloride in the presence of potassium hydride, phosphorus oxychloride, and an organic solvent. The product is purified by washing with water and drying over calcium carbonate. Diethyl benzhydrylphosphonate has been shown to be a good photosensitizer for electrophotographic imaging systems because it emits light when exposed to UV radiation. The aromatic hydrocarbon group in this compound causes it to fluoresce under UV light, providing a luminescent effect.
