3,5-Dichloropyrazine-2-carboxamide is a potent antitumor agent that has been shown to be effective against lung cancer. It inhibits the enzyme BACE1 and blocks the synthesis of amyloid beta, which is thought to play an important role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. 3,5-Dichloropyrazine-2-carboxamide also inhibits lymphoma kinase and is active against other cancers such as lymphoma. The compound does not inhibit the catalytic activity of other enzymes in mammalian cells and has been shown to be non-toxic to normal cells at concentrations up to 100 times higher than those that are toxic for tumor cells.
