2,5-Dichloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid is a compound that inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids and has an inhibitory effect on the growth of plants. It has been shown to inhibit lipid biosynthesis in plants. 2,5-Dichloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid also inhibits amide synthetase activity. It is used as a test compound for chemiluminescence methods and analytical methods. This compound was found to be a natural polymer, with sulfate as its major component. 2,5-Dichloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid is also used in oxidation catalysts to produce nitric acid.
