Description:

3,5-Dinitrotoluene is a glycol ether that has been used in the manufacture of lacquer and paint. It has been shown to be toxic to liver cells in vivo and can cause oxidative stress by generating reactive oxygen species. 3,5-Dinitrotoluene also affects the synthesis of DNA and RNA by inhibiting the activity of certain enzymes. This compound is an important intermediate in the production of methyl sulfone, which is used as a pharmaceutical agent. 3,5-Dinitrotoluene has been shown to have antitumor activity against typhimurium in vivo and to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro.
