Description:

1,3-Dioxacycloheptane is a tetraol with a protonated alcohol group and an electron-deficient carbonyl. It is a small molecule that has been studied for its conformational properties and its ability to undergo ring-opening polymerization. 1,3-Dioxacycloheptane has been shown to be effective against the H1N1 pandemic covid-19 virus in vitro. The compound also inhibits DNA replication by binding to the double helix and inhibiting RNA synthesis. This leads to cell death by apoptosis. 1,3-Dioxacycloheptane has been shown to have antiviral activity against other influenza viruses as well as HIV and HSV in the lab setting.
