Product Information

Name:
Dicyanobis-(1,10-phenanthroline)-iron
Controlled Product
Synonyms:
  • Iron,dicyanobis(1,10-phenanthroline)-, dihydrate (8CI)
Description:

Dicyano-bis-(1,10-phenanthroline)-iron is a complex of iron and the dicyanide salt of 1,10-phenanthroline. The complex has been shown to catalyze the reaction between acetaldehyde and sodium benzoate in acidic media. Dicyano-bis-(1,10-phenanthroline)-iron is also capable of reducing procainamide hydrochloride to procainamide in basic media. This complex can be prepared by reacting iron with dicyanobis-(1,10-phenanthroline) in aqueous solution with constant stirring at room temperature for about one hour. The monomer reactants are amines (e.g., aniline) and nitrates (e.g., sodium nitrate).
