Description:

3,3-Dimethylbutanoic acid is a tetronic acid that has been used in the synthesis of synthetic cannabinoids. It is also an intermediate for the production of malonic acid, isovaleric acid, methyl ketones and carboxylate. 3,3-Dimethylbutanoic acid can be found in urine samples from people who have ingested synthetic cannabinoids such as 5f-mdmb-pinaca. The compound can be activated with sodium hydroxide solution to form 2-dimethylaminoethanol and 2,2-dimethylpropanediol. Hydroxide solution can also react with the carboxylate group to generate a hydrogen bond.
