Description

2,6-Dichloropyridine-3,4-diamine is a lead compound that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. The compound has potent antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, and S. epidermidis. 2,6-Dichloropyridine-3,4-diamine also inhibits the production of bacterial dna by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV in bacterial membranes. This inhibition prevents the bacteria from replicating their DNA or repairing it after damage by other agents such as antibiotics. 2,6-Dichloropyridine-3,4-diamine has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of recombinant human DNA polymerases alpha and beta in vitro (in test tubes). It is also a potent inhibitor of recombinant human RNA polymerase alpha and beta in vitro (in test tubes).
