Description

5,7-Dichloro-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of herpes simplex virus in cell culture. It is active against a broad range of viruses including HIV and influenza A. The antiviral potency of 5,7-dichloro-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine against herpes simplex virus may be due to its ability to act as an agonist on adenosine receptor subtypes such as A2aR. This drug also has immunosuppressive properties and can be used for the treatment of immunodeficiency disorders.
