Product Information

Name:
2,4-Dimethoxyphenol
Synonyms:
  • Phenol, 2,4-Dimethoxy-
Description:

2,4-Dimethoxyphenol is an antioxidant that can be found in the extracts of Ganoderma lucidum. It has been shown to have a scavenging effect against reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). 2,4-Dimethoxyphenol is synthesized by reacting phenol with formaldehyde, followed by oxidation with sodium metaperiodate. This reaction can be used to produce 2,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde. The structure of this compound contains ether linkages and hydrogen bonds, which contribute to its antioxidant properties.
2,4-Dimethoxyphenol is able to react with the free hydroxyl groups on lipids and proteins and prevent them from undergoing oxidation reactions. As a result, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
