4,4'-Disulfanediylbis(2-aminobutanoic acid) is a disulfide bond analog that inhibits the formation of the disulfide bond in homocysteine. 4,4'-disulfanediylbis(2-aminobutanoic acid) prevents the synthesis of methionine from homocysteine and can be used to treat infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria. This drug has been shown to inhibit the progression of atherosclerotic lesions by reducing hydrogen tartrate production in vitro. 4,4'-disulfanediylbis(2-aminobutanoic acid) binds to nuclear DNA and inhibits transcription and replication. It also induces apoptosis in hepatocyte-like cells (HL60 cells). The fluorescence probe 5-(and-6)-carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester (CFSE) is used for labeling 4,4'-
