3,6-Dichloropicolinaldehyde is a chemical compound that is obtained by reduction of 3,6-dichlorobenzonitrile with sodium borohydride in the presence of water. It has been shown to undergo electrochemical reactions at the potentials and parameters investigated in this study. The cyclic voltammetry of 3,6-DCA shows that it has an acidic character due to its electron-donating carboxylate group. Reduction of 3,6-DCA gives rise to a molecule with two half-reactions: one involving the transfer of an electron from a water molecule to the anion and another involving the transfer of hydrogen atoms from the anion to a water molecule.
