4,6-Dimethylpyrimidine-2-carbonitrile is a chiral crystalline compound with a molecular weight of 130.09 g/mol. The molecule is planar and adopts an aromatic polydentate structure. This compound has been shown to be oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of potassium peroxydisulfate, giving 4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylpyrimidine-5-carbonitrile. It has also been shown to have a dehydrogenation reaction with lithium aluminum hydride, giving 2,4,6-trimethylaniline.
