Dimethyl 2-methylmalonate (DMMA) is a chemical compound that can bind to estrogen receptors and may be used as an estrogen receptor modulator. DMMA has been shown to inhibit the growth of bone lesions in diabetic patients. It also inhibits the chain reaction for polylactic acid synthesis, which is a biodegradable polymer. In addition, DMMA binds to metal surfaces and forms chelate rings with metals such as copper and iron. The inhibition of this reaction prevents the formation of catalysts for the cycloaddition process, which is a process for making plastics. DMMA also has pharmacokinetic properties that make it applicable for oral administration. DMMA has been found to inhibit allylation reactions, which are reactions involving compounds containing allyl groups. This property makes it an appropriate inhibitor for certain biological processes such as drug metabolism or protein synthesis.
