Diethyl 4-oxocyclohexane-1,1-dicarboxylate (DEOD) is a dialkyl indole derivative that belongs to the class of pyrrolidine acryloyl enamines. It has been shown to react with chloride to form an enamine, which can be used as a building block for the synthesis of various organic compounds. The protonation of DEOD with sodium methoxide produces an enamine, which reacts with alcohols in a nucleophilic substitution reaction. This compound also forms enamines with ammonia and amines. The chlorides can be replaced by other electrophiles such as bromide, iodide, or sulfonate ions.
