2,4-Dichloro-5-ethylpyrimidine is a benzamide that inhibits the histone methyltransferase activity of MLL. It is a powerful inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and has been shown to inhibit proliferation in cancer cells. Its pharmacokinetic properties have been studied in rats, with an elimination half-life of 27 hours. The lead compound was found to have significant inhibitory effects on the growth of human cancer cell lines, including Vismodegib resistant cells. It also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNFα by macrophages. 2,4-Dichloro-5-ethylpyrimidine has not been tested for carcinogenicity or reproductive toxicity.
