Product Information

Name:
2,4-Dimethyloxazole-5-carboxylic acid
Synonyms:
  • 5-Oxazolecarboxylic Acid, 2,4-Dimethyl-
Description:

2,4-Dimethyloxazole-5-carboxylic acid (DMOC) is an organic compound that can be found in farmland. It has been shown to be an effective fungicide against phycomycetes and plant diseases. DMOC is a nitrile amide and has been shown to inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi. It also inhibits the chloride ion uptake by the plant roots, which prevents their water transport. DMOC can be found in plants as a product of amino acid metabolism and is converted into toxic aminonitrile by some plant pathogenic fungi. DMOC is used as a herbicide or fungicide for crops such as wheat, rice, soybean, corn, barley, oats, rye, and sorghum.
