2-(Dimethylamino)-2-oxoacetic acid is a conjugate of dimethylamine and 2-oxoacetic acid. It is formed by the cross-coupling of an anthranilic acid with a methyl iodide followed by the oxidation of the resulting 2-iodoanthracene to 2-(dimethylamino)-2-oxoacetic acid. This compound is metabolized to yield the carboxylic acid, which has been shown to be resistant to degradation. The metabolite has also been shown to have pesticide properties and can be used in intraperitoneal injections.
