Description:

2-(3,5-Dichlorophenyl)acetonitrile is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and has a sweet odor. It is used as a solvent for dyes, resins, and rubber chemicals. 2-(3,5-Dichlorophenyl)acetonitrile's conformational properties are stabilized by the presence of protons or fluorine. The solvents have been shown to have potentials for use in chemical reactions involving benzyl chloride and chloroform. When protonated, it forms an equilibrium mixture of two conformers with opposite magnetic resonance spectra.
