Product Information
- Benzenecarboximidamide, 3,4-diamino-
3,4-Diaminobenzimidamide (DABA) is a serine protease inhibitor that inhibits the activity of the enzyme serine protease. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells in vitro and has been used to treat granulomatous diseases such as tuberculosis. DABA also inhibits streptococcal growth and has inhibitory effects on myelogenous leukemias. DABA is an analog of benzamidine, which acts as an inhibitor by binding to the active site of serine proteases and blocking access to substrate molecules. DABA may act as an apoptotic agent due to its ability to bind and cleave DNA, leading to cell death. This drug also has pharmacokinetic properties that are dependent on urinary pH; it is excreted in urine at a higher rate when the urinary pH is acidic, while it is excreted at a slower rate when the urinary pH is alkaline.
