Product Information
1,2-Di-O-acetyl-3,5-di-O-benzoyl-D-xylofuranose is an anti-HIV drug that inhibits HIV activity by binding to the HIV envelope. It blocks the attachment of HIV to lymphoid cells, and prevents the virus from entering the cell. The sugar is also able to inhibit viral replication in infected lymphoid cells and can be used as a topical treatment for skin infections. 1,2-Di-O-acetyl-3,5-di-O-benzoyl -D -xylofuranose has been shown to be active against HIV type 1 strains in cell culture and animal models. The substance blocks the condensation of pyrimidines during DNA synthesis, which prevents the production of nucleosides necessary for DNA synthesis. It also inhibits the formation of RNA from DNA in culture cells and can inhibit reverse transcription in vitro.
