Diethyl (4-aminophenyl)phosphonate is a modifier of the cancer cells. It is used in cancer research as an experimental drug to modulate topoisomerase II. This compound can be synthesized by the reaction of diethyl malonate and 4-aminophenyl chloroformate. Diethyl (4-aminophenyl)phosphonate has been shown to inhibit the growth of ovarian carcinoma cells in vitro, but not normal ovarian cells. In addition, this compound has been shown to have a stimulatory effect on human lung fibroblasts and splenocytes. Diethyl (4-aminophenyl)phosphonate also inhibits leishmania parasites and reduces their prevalence in mice with leishmaniasis.
