Product Information
2,4'-Dimethylbenzophenone is a phenolic compound with a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum that shows two isomeric forms. The low-temperature NMR spectrum of the more stable form has been studied and found to have a single resonance at about 9.4 ppm. This form also has a strong magnetic moment, which was measured to be 1.7 × 10-27 erg/g at 300 K. The other form of 2,4'-dimethylbenzophenone has an NMR spectrum that consists of two resonances, one at 8.2 ppm and the other at 11.5 ppm. It has been shown that the lower temperature form is more stable than the higher temperature form because it is less likely to react with oxygen in the air or water molecules in solution.
