Diethyl 2,2-difluoromalonate (DEF) is a fluorinated derivative of malonic acid that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding to the integrin receptor and blocking cell adhesion. DEF also inhibits the function of β-amino acid, an important growth factor for cancer cells. The effective dose for DEF is not well defined; however, it has been shown to be effective at concentrations ranging from 0.1 mM to 100 mM in immunoassays using human cancer cells.
