3,3'-Diethyl-9-methylthiacarbocyanineiodide is a sensitized cyanine dye that has been shown to have efficient optical and photocurrent properties. This dye exhibits spontaneous emission in the near infrared region of the spectrum and can be used as an infrared or near infrared light source. 3,3'-Diethyl-9-methylthiacarbocyanineiodide also has analogues with electron donor groups, such as oxazine and phenazine, that can be used for chemical imaging.
