Product Information

Name:
4,6-Dimethyl-2-thiopyrimidine
Synonyms:
  • 4,5-Dimethyl-2(1H)-pyrimidinethione
  • 4,5-Dimethylpyrimidine-2-Thiol
Description:

4,6-Dimethyl-2-thiopyrimidine is a pyrimidine derivative that has been synthesized in supercritical carbon dioxide. It has been shown to have protonation properties and kinetic behavior in the region of pH 7.5. 4,6-Dimethyl-2-thiopyrimidine can be used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds (e.g., 5,6-dimethoxybenzothiazole). It is also soluble in water, which makes it easy to extract with organic solvents such as dimethylformamide (DMF). This compound crystallizes from DMF as an orange or brownish powder, which can be analyzed by x-ray diffraction techniques.
