Description:

3,5-Diiodobenzylalcohol (DIBAH) is a dendronized molecule that is used for the synthesis of nanosized metal coordination complexes. DIBAH is soluble in polar solvents and reacts with metal ions to form a complex with a defined geometry and high thermal stability. DIBAH can be identified by its unique spectral properties and its good solubility in common organic solvents. The viscosity of DIBAH solutions varies with the concentration, which can be attributed to its cyclic structure.
A dilution series of DIBAH was used in mass spectrometry experiments to determine the diameter of the molecules. The results show that the average diameter of these molecules is around 4 nm.
