2,4-Diaminoquinazoline is a sulfa drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by inhibiting their ability to synthesize proteins. It has been shown to inhibit the production of epidermal growth factor in human macrophages. 2,4-Diaminoquinazoline also has antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. The biological properties of 2,4-diaminoquinazoline have been studied in a number of experiments, including apoptosis pathway studies in human cells. 2,4-Diaminoquinazoline was found to inhibit the kinase activity of wild-type strains but not mutants. There are also indications that 2,4-diaminoquinazoline binds to Toll-like receptor 4 on epithelial cells and may be involved in the development of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT).
